Gnomes of the Shinning Sea
Born from mutated humans after the great catastrophe, the ancestors of Gnomes and Dwarves, diverged and became their own distinct cultures.
The Gnomes (as called by humans) settled the areas far to the west, ravaged by the great machines of war. Curious and inquisitive they discovered many old technologies and rebuilt a civilisation relying heavily on the devices they make. Gnomes tend to travel and ply their inventive trade across the world, setting up shop for a short while then moving on. They have become known as a transient people by mankind, who tolerate them in their strongholds and cities, as long as their contraptions don't blow anything or anyone up. Unknown to man, gnomes have a great and wondrous city built upon and into a strange floating island that hovers in the skies above the boiling seas in the west. The bottom of these oceans still bleed from the great wars of the ancients, traversing them is impossible by sea voyage, keeping the floating capital ion the gnomes hidden to the rest of the world. A few smaller versions of these land motes are hidden in extremely isolated areas, scarred by the weapons of the ancients. Gnomes live life to the fullest, are super inquisitive, and very open minded. They especially enjoy inventing, building odd contraptions and are fond of solving puzzles which often leads them to adventure filled lives as 'problem-solvers' especially when those problems are locked in containers, be it ancient treasure or technology, the joy is in the discovery. A distant splinter group of gnomes travelled with the first dwarves and learned the art of deep exploration, becoming the svirfneblin. |
